September 2026 - Melinda Engelmohr

How long have you been in education and what positions have you had?
I have been in education for 16 years. My first eight years were spent in the HS English dept. teaching everything from English 1 to Dual Credit English 1301, Theater, and Speech. The past eight years, have landed me in the library and am currently wearing District UIL Coordinator, District Instructional Materials Coordinator, Speech & Debate Coach, OAP Director, and District Media Specialist hats.
What would you tell a person new to this job?
JUST BREATHE! It is a lot and will be overwhelming at first (experienced that first hand), but there is a great community built to support you! Also, take small bites and check off one box at a time.
What is the most unexpected challenge you have faced in this role?
How everything holds its breath for the legislature to make decisions that impact our positions exponentially!
What is one skill you would love to learn and why?
I would love to learn how to swing my golf club better! My dad has golfed his entire life, and my daughter started playing this year for school. I'm trying to learn, but it's not pretty!
