August 2025 - Jennifer Babbitt
How long have you been in education and what positions have you had?
I have been in education for 23 years - I taught high school Spanish for 20 years and I have been the instructional technologist for Palmer ISD for 3 years. This is a great role because I get to help teachers with their technology needs!
What would you tell a person new to this job?
I would tell a person new to any job in technology to be flexible. You can come in with one plan for your day and leave getting none of it done because there were so many other things that had to be taken care of unexpectedly.
What is the most unexpected challenge you have faced in this role?
One unexpected challenge I have faced in this role is resistance to change. It's not necessarily just in my district, but also in other districts. We get comfortable with what we are used to, but this world is rapidly changing in so many areas and we have to be life-long learners to keep up.
What is one skill you would love to learn and why?
Completely unrelated to education, I would love to learn how to be a better cake/cookie decorator! I love baking, but I'm always more concerned with how things taste than how they look, so I wish I was better at decorating (and had the patience to do so!).
